The good work that our Care Workers and Lay Counsellors are doing in Ratanda Section 23 is often overlooked.

Here are some facts:

In early 2011 we were assisting approximately 200 children and 200 adults. We have embarked on a full scale registration drive and the following statistics have been received:

Number of houses in Section 23: 3097

Number of houses surveyed to date: 1199

Total number of Adults registered: 2623

Total number of Children registered: 1371

Here are the shocking results from our survey to date (as at 20 February 2012):

Out of the 1371 children we have identified 713 vulnerable children and 144 orphans.

Out of the 2623 adults we have identified 231 who are HIV+.

Out of the 713 children we have identified 20 who are HIV+.

Out of the 1371 children we are giving special care to 4 disabled, 2 rape victims, 1 blind, 2 epileptic, 3 mentally disturbed, 1 diabetic, 1 deaf and 1 asthmatic child.

To summarize as at the 20 February 2012 we have the following figures available:

We now caring for 334 adults of which 236 are HIV+

We are now caring for 713 children of which 20 are HIV+ and 15 under special care.

Our Lay Counsellors went on our first visit to a factory near our centre. They spoke to the workers about HIV/AIDS and they had an opportunity to chat to the counsellors. We also invited the workers to come to our centre and be tested to see what their HIV status is. We were blessed with our first person coming to the centre that same afternoon.

Indawo Yosizo ended the year with a Christmas braai (barbecue) where everyone enjoyed themselves and had a time to chat with each other on a casual basis. We were joined by some members of the board and some volunteers. 2011 was a good year and the Care Givers and Counselors can be proud of what they achieved. The number of people being helped increased to just on 500 and we know that this number will grow in 2012. This is sad to think that more people will become ill but a blessing to know that we can make a difference in their lives. Here are some pictures taken at the function.

The story began in our previous article on Duduza and the story continues here. This is the house that we bought for Christopher and his wife. It is impressive to see how Christopher and his wife have cleared up all the rubble and the clean and open slab is waiting (hopefully) for the Government to build a new RDP home for them. The sad news is that when I spoke to them about the new home they did not know that this was promised on TV and so there has obviously been absolutely no effort from the Government or Local Municipality to visit the sites and tell the residents what is happening. If the Government does not come to light with a new home we plan to raise funds and build it for them.

The cleaned up slab waiting (hopefully) for the Government to build a new home.

We at Indawo Yosizo are very proud of our workers and we like to show them that we are proud of them and at the same time show the community that we are proud of what we are doing for God. One of the ways to do this is to is to supply our Care Workers and Lay Counselors with golf shirts with our logo and identifying that we care for those suffering from HIV/AIDS by adding the HIV/AIDS ribbon. Here we see some of our Care Workers in their new shirts.

Everybody is aware that a tornado struck the Duduza Township but not many of us are aware of the trauma experienced by the people caught in this devastation. We received a call from our Bishop Zipho Siwa asking if we could help. Indawo Yosizo immediately went into action and this is what we have managed to do so far:
