Indawo Yosizo ended the year with a Christmas braai (barbecue) where everyone enjoyed themselves and had a time to chat with each other on a casual basis. We were joined by some members of the board and some volunteers. 2011 was a good year and the Care Givers and Counselors can be proud of what they achieved. The number of people being helped increased to just on 500 and we know that this number will grow in 2012. This is sad to think that more people will become ill but a blessing to know that we can make a difference in their lives. Here are some pictures taken at the function.

Having a chat...

Our competent chefs....

Queuing for some good meat...

All the staff received shirts, a dry mac and umbrella
Great fun was had by all and we are looking forward to a great 2012

The story began in our previous article on Duduza and the story continues here. This is the house that we bought for Christopher and his wife. It is impressive to see how Christopher and his wife have cleared up all the rubble and the clean and open slab is waiting (hopefully) for the Government to build a new RDP home for them. The sad news is that when I spoke to them about the new home they did not know that this was promised on TV and so there has obviously been absolutely no effort from the Government or Local Municipality to visit the sites and tell the residents what is happening. If the Government does not come to light with a new home we plan to raise funds and build it for them.

We at Indawo Yosizo are very proud of our workers and we like to show them that we are proud of them and at the same time show the community that we are proud of what we are doing for God. One of the ways to do this is to is to supply our Care Workers and Lay Counselors with golf shirts with our logo and identifying that we care for those suffering from HIV/AIDS by adding the HIV/AIDS ribbon. Here we see some of our Care Workers in their new shirts.

Really smart.....

DEVASTATING…..
Everybody is aware that a tornado struck the Duduza Township but not many of us are aware of the trauma experienced by the people caught in this devastation. We received a call from our Bishop Zipho Siwa asking if we could help. Indawo Yosizo immediately went into action and this is what we have managed to do so far:
Supplied food (donated by AMCARE and Heidelberg Pick and Pay).

Food delivered to Duduza Methodist Church and ready to be distributed

Rev Sondlile and two helpers from Duduza
Transport of food was supplied by Nigel Methodist Church and Indawo Yosizo.
Supplied blankets (donated by Indawo Yosizo and AMCARE).
Heidelberg Methodist Church is giving over R7000-00 towards rebuilding a house.

Christopher Nxumalo stands in the ruins that was once his house...
Heidelberg Methodist Church is applying to the MCSA relief fund for more assistance.
The plan is to not only build Mr T Nxumalo’s a new house but to raise enough funds to help others as well. If you would like to help with this project please contact Ray on 082 656 3123.
God has called us to help those who are struggling and it is a great privilege to have the resources to carry out the calling.
Here are a few pictures…..

Gogo Nelane’s house was burnt down in March 2011. Gogo Nelane and her adopted children (all Orphan and Vulnerable Children – OVC) are one of the over 200 families who we at Indawo Yosizo support and care for. As soon as we heard of the incident our coordinator Elvera Troskie and her Care Workers got to work and went and helped her clean up her house.

Beams were burnt beyond use....
We soon realized that she could not continue to live in the home in this state and so we started renovating (just about rebuilding) her home.

Burnt insides of the house
New beams (donated by Pages Timber) were installed.

New Beams
The house was re-painted (paint donated by Hot Pot Paint).

Newly painted walls
New window frames and windows were installed (donated by Calypso Glass and Suikerbos Hardware).

New windows
Furniture and clothes were put into the house (donated by Heidelberg Methodist Church and the community of Heidelberg).

Furniture and clothes
Planning and labour was donated by Tony Burisch

Tony (Executive Member of Heidelberg Methodist), Lisa (Indawo) and Gogo Nelane
The Indawo Yosizo Team who helped with all the work.

The Indawo Yosizo Care Workers attended a “Healing the Wounds of Ethnic Division” course that aims at helping people restore relationships across colour, ethnic, cultural, language, traditional, emotional and personal barriers. The course was presented by Mercy Ministries SA (they can be contacted on 082 377 0087 – Fanie).

CARE WORKERS IN TRAINING
This course has been presented to and enjoyed by the ladies of Heidelberg Methodist Church on a weekend camp.
The course is presented by four facilitators (Fanie, Mada, Maria and Elvera (from Indawo Yosizo)). There is no charge for the course but the people hosting the course must provide meals and tea/coffee (and accommodation if needed). The course can be done over five mornings or one weekend.
